Dear Future English 110.01 Students,
Over the course of this class, you will improve upon your writing skills in a variety of ways. You will blog every day, which is as boring yet easy as it sounds. You will do in class assignments to help hone in on your research skills, grammar flaws, and integration of quotes. You will also write two papers, your research paper and your common place paper. Make sure that you pick a topic that is interesting to you. Having a topic you enjoy will make your writing easier and your argument more compelling.
Some of my advice to you is as follows. Make sure you type a blog every night. It is super easy and is a great way to ensure you receive as many points as necessary. If you miss one hey it won’t damage your grade that much, but the missed points do add up in the end. Another thing is to make sure you ask ahead of time what the grading rubric will be for your papers, since you will not receive it in class before you turn your paper in. It is always nice to know what is expected of you so asking is a great way to figure it out. I wish I would have asked but being a freshman I am still not as annoying as I should be yet. Thirdly, I recommend taking advantage of the extra credit opportunities sooner rather than later. In the beginning of the class you will probably think to yourself, “I doubt I will need that.” Trust me it never hurts to be prepared, and you will need it. My last advice to you is to read through some of these letters. They will give you an idea of what to expect and will help you succeed in this class.
I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming quarter and time spent in the English 110.01 class. Make the most of your time and manage it wisely. Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
Mandy Pyle
The blogging was definitely easy points, but if you missed a few it did add up.
