I have only had one job, unless you count babysitting. I don’t really count babysitting as my first job though, because you don’t have taxes involved. Therefore my one and only job so far has been to work at Pizza Cottage in Lancaster, Ohio. I have also helped train for the Pizza Cottage that recently opened in Pickerington, Ohio. I will have worked there for 3 years come May 15th. I really have enjoyed my first job, and am not looking forward to leaving it. I know how to do almost everything there, and it is a comfort zone for me. I started out as working the cash register. Soon after, I learned how to make salads, which is a fairly simple concept. After that came cutting pizzas, making subs, making pizzas, and becoming a driver. Now, every Friday night, I am at the front of the extremely hot oven cutting the many pizzas that are ordered, with one other guy of course. It may seem simple enough, cut the pizza and box it. But when you have a bunch of pizzas coming out at once, it becomes a little more difficult. Not to mention the fact that there are so many different kinds. Some have light sauce, some need to be pie cut. Then there is the BLT and Mexican pizzas. They are a real pain! You need to add fresh tomatoes and lettuce before you cut them. Just another thing to do that takes up time. Plus you not only have carryout orders but dine in as well. All in all it may seem simple, and to me I think it is but many people have tried to handle it and many people have failed.
It's funny that we were just talking about this is class. Some people just don't have what it takes to deal with customers face to face. It's a true skill.
ReplyDeletehaha and it really does seem that the people who lack the most skills to deal with people are the ones who always get hired for those kinds of jobs..
