Blog 43: You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'.

What is the best present you have EVER received?  I was thinking about this and let me tell you it was a tough decision.  At first, I wanted to say my car because it is one of the most important things in my life right now.  If I didn’t have it, then I probably wouldn’t have a job and wouldn’t have a way to class every day.  But then I thought some more and I remembered back in the 8th grade when my parents decided to trick me.  That year on Christmas day, I did not get a lot, just some shirts and a bracelet.  I didn’t think anything of it.  A few days later, I went with my dad to pick up my gold trumpet from the cleaners.  My mom ended up going with us on her lunch break from work (a part of their plan that was altered since her car would not start).  We got there, and I started looking around at all the beautiful silver trumpets, hoping that one day I might own one myself.  Finally they found my trumpet and set it on the counter.  But this was not my trumpet.  Yes it was my trumpet case, but inside was a brand new silver trumpet.  A Bach Stradivarius to be specific.  I was shocked and just looked at my parents.  They were smiling at the wonderful switch they had just pulled on me.  That is a professional trumpet, fairly expensive, and plays beautifully.  It is more than I could ever ask for, and was definitely a great present.  I will never get rid of it.

  1. I'm having a geek moment. I don't play trumpet, I'm a clarinetist, but I appreciate the beautiful craftsmanship that is a Stradivarius instrument. Lucky!
