Blog 24: It's not illegal... it's frowned upon

For this blog, I am going to work on my bridge between my real world example and my two episode scenes.  My real world example is genetic engineering and the different things that can be accomplished with the use of genetic modification.  In the episode, something thought impossible happened.  A man, Dr. Graves, cheated death and continued to live on through Data even though his original body died.  Although in the modern world, this is not possible the technology and research is out there to make it possible in the near future.  Cloning has already taken place in different mammals, such as sheep.  Humans are the next step for cloning.  And not only is cloning in our future but genetic modification as well.  Most scientists have figured that within the next ten to twenty years, genetic engineering for humans will be possible, even if it is only the development of the technology to make it possible.  In the episode, the technology was present.  But being a television show, the technology is not quite like the technology being developed right now.  They are similar though and the outcome will in the end process be the same.  People will be able to live longer and Dr. Graves would not have died from a disease like he did in the episode because genetic engineering could be our fix for it.  It is incredible that things from the past that seemed to only be science fiction have become the next step in our modern world.
